AVORIAZ - Introduction

With its location making it one of the closest resorts to Geneva airport and its position at the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski domain, the purpose built resort of Avoriaz is a perfect base for a hassel free holiday. Perched above the rest of the Portes du Soleil, Avoriaz is the focal point for much of the areas skiing. The Portes du Soleil is one of the biggest ski areas in the world, with 14 resorts in both France and also across the border in Switzerland linked by an extensive lift system to give skiers and snowboarders 650km of groomed pistes. The resort is also one of the few Traffic free resorts making it a popular choice with families. With a vast array of accommodation on offer, from apartments to hotels there is something to suit all budgets.
Skiing
With 650km of slopes on offer, there is plenty to keep even the most eager skier busy in the Portes du Soleil for a fortnight or more. Avoriaz is central to the domain which makes it a great place to explore the whole of the area from. Links are good and it is easy to get around the slopes to visit the surrounding villages, on both sides of the French / Swiss border. The views across the rugged terrain around Avoriaz are awesome and lower down, amongst the trees makes for some picturesque skiing. The nursery slopes are close to the village and with around half of the resorts slopes green or blue there is no shortage of novice terrain. Intermediates are spoilt for choice and perhaps the most difficult thing they will have to consider is how late they can leave it before turning for home! The variety of terrain is amazing, with open snow bowls, tree-lined slopes and some lovely long trails.
Snowboarding
Avoriaz was one of the first Snowboarder friendly resorts and remains so, with some great terrain, along with fun-parks and a half pipe.
Ski Schools
The ESF ski school offers a wide variety of courses for skiers and boarders of all ages and abilities, and all have a fab command of the English language. Let SkiExtras give you a low cost online quote!
