Flims - Introduction

Resort Information Flims
On a hillside above the river some 18km west of Chur, the winter and summer resort of Flims is well known to the Swiss, who consistently pack the place out every season, but is virtually unknown outside the country. There are two parts to Flims – Flims-Dorf is the older, original village with most amenities and the base station for the ski lifts, while Flims-Waldhaus is a newer resort, with most of the hotels, set amidst beech and larch woods on a slightly higher elevation 1km south. Some 5km south of Waldhaus – across the German–Romansh language border – is the quiet village of Laax, with tiny Falera up a 3km branch road completing the picture. Flims, Laax and Falera all share the extensive “Alpine Arena” ski region, centred on the Crap Sogn Gion mountain (2228m), accessed by a cable-car from Laax-Murschetgon the edge of Laax village, and the Cassons Grat (2634m), served by a combination of chairlifts and a cable-car from Flims-Dorf. Falera has a chairlift to Curnius, halfway up the Crap Sogn Gion. Beginners and intermediates are best served by the range of skiing on offer at Flims-Laax.

Snowboarding

Boarders visiting Flims Laax Falera enjoy a permanent Boarder-Park, a mini boardercross for children and 2 ''in dirt''-halfpipes (one of which is a monster-pipe) on the Crap Sogn Gion; a Boarder-Park and a monster-pipe on the Vorab Glacier (both are only open during the Glacier Season from October till December). They've even established a high-tech hotel called Riders Palace which caters to boarders when they're off the slopes allowing its guests to surf the net, watch digital movies and so much more.Park and Pipe Vorab has a monsterpipe, a halfpipe, 1 kickerline, 1 railline and 10 rails there's plenty to keep you busy if the Park and Pipe Crap Sogn Gion is feeling too crowded. Park and; Pipe Crap Sogn Gion (2228 meters) has two monsterpipes, a snowboarding park with a park lift and a boardercross/skicross track. Monsterpipe Crap Lang is definitely for the experienced boarder, whilst the Monsterpipe Crap Kurz is ideal for pipe beginners. The Snowboarding park Crap contains 2 halfpipes, 1 kicker line and 3 raillines with about 20 rails, rainbow-rails, straight-rails, A-rails, kink-box, straight-boxes, S-boxes, C-boxes, and a wall. The Boardercross on the Crap Sogn Gion is 600 meters and contains tables, steep curves, double jumps, large moguls, bumps and dips. From the Café No Name which is directly above the park, there is a perfect view of the whole park. Some favorite runs are the Vorab-Sattel-Ruschein (a 7 km long challenge); Alp Ruschein, Plaun and Crap Ault (both offering plenty of jumps). Or, for great powder-snow, head towards the vast snowfields of Cassons or Masegn (towards Ruschein).

Ski Schools

Courses provided at the ski school are geared to moving both beginners as well as experienced and advanced skiers of every age group on. There are half-day and full-day courses for beginners and 3 to 5-day blocks in groups or private sessions for the advanced. Beginners - children and adults Younger visitors start their skiing careers very gently in the children’s area, the kingdom of the funny little mascot, “Snowli”. After two trial lessons, you can decide how you want to proceed and for how long – with half and whole-day courses including or excluding lunch. Never fear: even if you long since outgrew your child’s ski boots, we’ll find a suitable beginners course for you. Advanced and real experts For advanced skiers and experts, regardless of age, 3 or 5-day courses are on offer, taught in groups or individually. In classes divided according to age and ability, the learning process is a great community experience you will always want to remember.
