Grindelwald - Introduction

Resort Information Grindelwald
Beneath the towering north face of the Eiger, Grindelwald is set in magnificent scenery and offers some great skiing with links to Wengen. Set along a narrow valley with buildings in a mainly traditional chalet style, the resort has great skiing and is suitable even for non skiers. Beginners can enjoy the nursery slope just above the village, and great long runs available served by the railway to Kleine Scheidegg. Grindelwald has ideal intermediate runs, with nearly all the runs from Kleine Scheidegg being long blues or gentle reds. At the top of the Lauberhorn lift there are some more challenging pistes, for advanced skiers; the Lauberhorn World Cup downhill, or the Black Rock Run, which starts at the base of the Eiger.

Skiing

The Jungfrau ski region covers 175 kms of pistes with relaxing runs on the First to challenging routes down the Kleine Scheidegg mountain. Experts can try the famous Lauberhorn World Cup downhill piste and the fearsome Black Rock run from the base of the Eiger. The areas is strongly recommended for groups with non skiers, as the area has many winter walks and access to the Jungfraujoch train, which runs to the glacier viewing area.

Snowboarding

There are 2 half pipes in the region, a jumper’s corner in Wengen plus a terrain park at Baergelegg. The Jungfrau area is excellent for beginners.

Ski Schools

SkiExtras recommends Altitude Ski school who offer a great choice of courses to suit all ages and abilities. Pre booking is essential as places are strictly limited in size and often peak weeks can get fully booked.

Eating Out

Grindelwald offers numerous restaurants including the popular Eiger, Fondue and Spinne restaurant.

Bars and clubs

Grindelwald offers a great variety of bars and clubs, from quiet and informal cafes to lively bars, with two favourites really standing out; the Espresso bar and the Gepsi bar.

Off the slopes

Near to the resort there is lots to see and do, from a sports centre with pool and wellness centre (with sauna and massages), to a cinema, bowling, curling, ice-skating, snowshoeing and an excellent 50 km toboggan track.
