Jasper - Introduction

You stay at Jasper—you ski at Marmot Basin (a 25-minute drive away). That’s the deal because there are no on-mountain accommodations in this raw, beautiful and highly conserved wildlife habitat. Jasper Ski resort, also known as Marmot Basin, is situated at the top of Jasper National Park just off of the Icefields Parkway, 20 minutes’ drive from the town of Jasper. Edmonton is the closest international airport (about 360km east of Jasper) but more people travel up from Calgary, served by International flights from London’s Heathrow, whilst stopping at Banff en route. The small town of Jasper with its rustic, yet charming stone lodgings, restaurants and shops is complemented by the 10,878 sq km of Jasper National Park wilderness, and the recreational mountains of Marmot Basin lying within. One unique features of the resort is that when you arrive at Marmot Basin you simply park and ski straight off to the nearest chairlift—and at the end of the day you can ski directly back to your vehicle too.The spectacular scenery of frozen lakes and glaciers which characterise Jasper National Park give rise to some amazing skiing experiences.The natural bowl area is dominated by Marmot Peak at 2,612 m, linked to Caribou Ridge 2,293 m along one face and to Marmot 2 at 2,530 m along another ridge called The Saddle. Marmot offers an amazing variety of terrain for all levels of skier or rider—the terrain is pretty evenly split between novice, intermediate, advanced and expert trails—from high alpine, powder-filled bowls and immaculately groomed trails through to beautifully spaced gladed trails through the tree.
