Kaprun - Introduction

Kaprun ski resort is a pretty alpine village with access to some superb snowsure skiing and surprisingly good nightlife for a village of its size. Situated only a 2-hour drive from Salzburg and 2.5 hours from Innsbruck, the Kaprun Ski resort is located at the foot of the breathtaking Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. It offers an excellent range of skiing, including some at high altitude with guaranteed snow. With a wide variety of bars and restaurants, a ski holiday in Kaprun has lots to offer - on and off the piste.
Skiing
As part of the Europa Sportregion, which also includes the neighbouring and chic resort of Zell am See, Kaprun boasts the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, on which year-round skiing is possible from as high as 3029m. Gentle nursery slopes are found beside the village centre, on the Lechnerberg. The range of skiing in and around Kaprun is truly incredible. Over 130kms of pistes and 58 lifts are available in the fantastic Kaprun/Zell am See Europa Ski Region. Accomplished skiers will relish the contrast of wide-open pistes and the superb powder of the glacier bowl. There are seven exciting black runs throughout the region, some with vicious moguls. Skiers will also find especially challenging and exhilarating pistes on Zell am See’s Schmittenhöhe Mountain.
Snowboarding
Kaprun has always been thought of as one of the best places to snowboard in Europe. In recent years, the resort has played host to the annual 'Snowboard UK’ board test, due to the resort’s great attitude towards snowboarding and its varied terrain
Ski Schools
With excellent instruction from the Kaprun ski school, beginners can generally progress on to the numerous easy runs of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.
Eating Out
Kaprun offers a superb selection of over 25 restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets, from fondues to pizzas, and Italian to American.
Bars and clubs
BAUM BAR is the place to hang in the evenings after a hard day skiing, and most people can be found partying here at this lively bar.
Off the slopes
For a little exercise off of the slopes, the 'Optimum' Sports Centre with indoor pool and fitness studio, indoor tennis and squash centre, bowling lanes and a small ice-skating rink is a great place to visit.
