LA CLUSAZ - Introduction

Part of the impressive Massif des Aravis, La Clusaz is the largest of the resorts and offers visitors a lively yet family friendly resort with a traditional Savoyard mountain feel. One of the most established resorts in the Alps, La Clusaz is also largely regarded as one of the most picturesque resorts in the Haute Savoie. A variety of slopes are available to suit all ski abilities, from tree lined beginner slopes to large bowls and steep off piste areas for the more adventurous.
Skiing
The main ski area of La Clusaz consists of 5 interconnecting mountains offering skiers over 130km of piste to explore. There are several nursery slopes available for beginners at resort level and also the sunny plateau served by the Beauregard gondola has a choice of easy cruising green and blue runs. There is a wide and varied choice of pistes for intermediate skiers, from wide blues on l’Etale and l’Aiguille to the more challenging red runs on Grand Crêt. Advanced skier will not be disappointed, with the Massif de la Balme offering several challenging pistes as well as access to a variety of off piste skiing and last but not least the mogul slopes under Crêt du Loup, which have newly been classified as blacks.
Snowboarding
Massif de la Balme is known as being a snowboarder’s paradise with big carving slopes and huge powder bowls. There is a boarder cross, a snow park and a half pipe all of which make La Clusaz an excellent and popular choice for snowboarders.
Ski Schools
ESF is the longest established ski school in La Clusaz providing tuition for all levels. There are other more specific schools to choose from for snowboarding and specialist skiing, including off piste guiding and climbing.
Eating Out
There are plenty of dining options throughout the town, from simply scrumptious pizzerias to eateries oozing with traditional Savoyard charm.
Bars and clubs
There is a fairly relaxed après ski scene throughout the resort. Try Le Grenier for live music and DJs and the weekly welcome night at the tourist office with free vin chaud offers the perfect start to the holiday. Into the night party animals won’t want to miss nightclubs Club 18 and l’Ecluse with its glass dance floor.
Off the slopes
The picturesque resort offers many walks for the non-skiers. There is a also a heated outdoor swimming pool and an ice rink. The popular lakeside town of Annecy, with its plethora of shops, is only a bus journey away.
