LA PLAGNE SOLEIL - Introduction
La Plagne is made up of 10 inter-linked villages in the Haute Tarentaise, and provides some truly spectacular high altitude skiing and fantastic accommodation to suit all tastes. Much of the accommodation in the higher villages provides the convenience of doorstep skiing so you can be on the slopes straight after breakfast. The area enjoys a highly efficient lift system providing good access to all the different ski areas. La plagne is a Glacier resort and part of the Paradiski area linking with Les Arcs.
Skiing
La Plagne is home to the Bellecôte Glacier and guarantees snow throughout the season in the upper villages. You can practically ski all parts of the ski area both on and off piste, and there are a huge number of lifts to carry you to all sectors of the skiing. The resort is an absolute dream for intermediates with plenty of motorway skiing.
Snowboarding
There is a good mix of terrain for boarders, with areas to suit every level. There are three fun parks with half-pipes in Plagne-Bellecôte, Belle-Plagne and Montchavin-Les Coches. Freeriders should grab a guide and experience the great off-piste.
Ski Schools
SkiExtras recommends Oxygene Ski School who offer a great choice of courses to suit all levels of skier and snowboarder alike. Eating Out
There are plenty of good value and quality mountain restaurants to choose from serving a mixture of local and international cuisine. Champangy and Montchavin are popular lunch time destinations with regular visitors. The traditional and rustic Au Bon Vieux Temps, and Le Sanuget serve classic Savoyard dishes, whilst restaurants such as Roc des Blanchets and Chalet des Colosses offer breathtaking panoramic views to complement their excellent food. Those wishing to try exquisite pizzas or steaks should try Le Loup Garrou or La Chevrette.
Bars and clubs
Belle Plagne and Plagne Centre provide the best night life and selection of bars and are popular with groups and couples. The bars here cater for all tastes but for those looking for a more tranquil setting should head for the lower resorts.
Off the slopes
There are mountain trails, snowshoeing excursions and dog sledding for those who like the outdoor life, plus fitness centres, saunas and solariums for those who don’t. The more adventurous may like to try paragliding or hang-gliding, whilst the 1992 Winter Olympics bobsleigh track is a must!
