LA TANIA - Introduction

The purpose built resort of La Tania is an ideal location for those looking to ski the famous resorts of Méribel and Courchevel, but to do so in a relaxed way and to save money in the process. Although modern, the resort has a village atmosphere and some pleasant accommodation. La Tania is a great holiday choice for families, but those without children in tow will find plenty of interest. There is a wide range of accommodation on offer from apartments, to hotels and chalets, so whether you are looking for something for the week or just a weekend break, you will find to suit. La Tania forms part of the awesome Trois Vallees ski area, the largest ski area in France and also the World, and by hopping on the resort’s Gondola you can be making turns in one of its more famous neighbours before mid-morning coffee break.
Skiing
The Trois Vallees is simply amazing in the amount and range of skiing it has to offer. One of the toughest choices you will have is deciding which part of this vast area to go to. La Tania has its own nursery slopes and some of the tree-lined runs around the village will interest more advanced skiers. Above the tree-line, in Courchevel and Méribel, the skiing domain opens up, with a wide array of challenges for all levels of skier. Beyond Méribel the domain extends to cover Les Menuires and Val Thorens. If you think you might run out of trails, think again. In addition to the seeming endless options, the snow is usually great and there are some magnificent views to see, at times all of the Alps seem to be laid before you as you slip down the slopes. If being on the piste isn’t enough for you, then get yourself a guide and head for one of the powder stashes, steeps or couloirs.
Snowboarding
The well-groomed slopes and gentle approaches back to the areas resorts make them excellent training grounds for beginners to ply their new trade. The more adventurous snowboarders can really enjoy the huge number of wide and challenging pistes and vast number of adrenaline off piste areas to explore (Guide needed). Snowboarding is cool and if you are in the Trois Vallees it is hard to be cooler!
Ski Schools
There are a number of different ski schools to choose from, all of which offer regular lessons, either for individuals or as part of a group. The schools cater for all levels of skier and snowboarder alike and pre booking is highly recommended especially during peak holiday dates. There are also children’s ski facilities and a kindergarten. SkiExtras recommends Magic Ski School due to their levels of service and friendly personal service. Group lesson sizes are strictly limited so early booking is essential, why not let us give you an online quote?
Eating Out
There are three or four restaurants in La Tania, which offer reasonably priced food in welcoming surroundings. The hotels Telemark and Montana also have restaurants open to the public. The resort has a variety of fast food on offer whilst La Farcon offers something for the more upmarket taste. Ensure that you make time somewhere during your stay to sample one of the local Savoyard specialties, like a Pierre Chaud (Hot stone to cook your own food on) or Tartiflette (Fundamentally cheese, bacon and potato pie but irresistible!).
Bars and clubs
The resort has a few bars and the vibe is very much for relaxed fun. The most well known and hence usually the busiest is Le Ski Lodge, where you can sometimes find live music, but you will always find a friendly welcome. At the Telemark’s bar you’ll find live music at weekends, as well as TV sport and other entertainments.
Off the slopes
There is a host of other activities that can be enjoyed away from the slopes of the Trois Vallees, including Ice Hockey, Skating, Squash, Snowshoeing, Bowling, Climbing and Karting. You might also get to watch the amazing Ski Jumping in Le Praz when the competitions are on.
