PASSO TONALE - Information

Straddling a mountain pass the resort of Passo Tonale is one of the highest in Italy. Its height may make it above the tree line but it also gives it a great snow record. Over recent years the lift system has been modernised and further developments are in progress to extend the ski area. Off the slopes facilities are being improved and many of the hotels upgraded. Sunny Tonale is a friendly and relaxed resort and provides a warm welcome. There are several bars, cafés and good value eating places in the compact village centre. Skiing is convenient to the hotels and there is lots on offer. The resort is a great place for beginners, with some wide open nursery runs and a user friendly lift system. Lift queues are a rarity in the resort, which is a bonus for all levels of skier. With good natural snow and plenty of snow cannons the resort is snow sure. The permanent snowfields of the Presena glacier can even be skied in August! There is excellent skiing on the glacier, but if the conditions are good the glacier lifts don’t open and skiing the fresh stuff is the order of the day. From the top of the glacier intermediates and advanced skiers can enjoy a thrilling run down the recently remodelled Presena black slope. There is also an exciting 4.5km long race piste to enjoy and a lovely 7km run, down through the woods to Ponte di Legno, where you will find some further interesting skiing amongst the trees. With its good lift system, guaranteed snow and sunny aspect, Tonale fulfils most skiers expectations.
