Sunday River is known for its quiet slopes, and with over 3 miles of terrain from east to west crossing 8 different peaks, it has proven a popular destination for British visitors catering for all ski and snowboard abilities. Beginner skiers will enjoy South Ridge with good, easy runs; intermediates can cruise around on rolling blues and experts can try the challenging narrow mogulled double-blacks that lead straight down into the base lodges! Sunday River has a several lively bars and restaurants to chose from including several in the resort hotels. In the nearby small town of Bethel, which is approximately 10 minutes drive away you will find a few shops, restaurants and bars in a pretty New England setting, that also offer some lively après-ski. An excellent resort for families with many ski in ski out condos and Hotels.

Skiing

In terms of sheer size, Sunday River is remarkable: 131 trails, 667.7 acres and 8 interconnected mountains. Each peak offers a distinct experience, from the steeps and bumps of White Cap to the tree skiing of Oz to the cruising on North Peak and Jordan Bowl, and it's all serviced by a network of 18 modern lifts, four of which are high-speed quads, ensuring easy access to every corner of the resort quickly and easily. At the eastern end of the resort, White Cap features some of the most challenging terrain on the mountain with steeps, glades, and the legendary bump run White Heat. Obsession is a long Black run full of rolls and variation in pitch. Spruce Peak offers two long Blue cruisers, Risky Business and American Express, and the short and steep bump run Downdraft. Spruce also offers quick access to the western side of the resort with the Green run Sirius. OZ is a unique bowl with advanced Black and Double-Black terrain. Runs here are a mix of glades and open runs full of natural terrain features and steep pitches. The trail breakdown is Green Circle: 43 Trails, Blue Square: 47, Single Black: 25, and Double Black: 16.

Snowboarding

4 terrain parks, superpipe, 1/4 pipe, mini-pipe. For the last four years Sunday River has been leading the industry in developing separate parks for different ability levels, offering a progression in feature size and difficulty ranging from small, entry-level elements to a Zaugg-cut superpipe and pro-level hits and jibs. All parks are designed and maintained by a seasoned crew, with an arsenal including a Zaugg Superpipe Cutter, Terrain Master Park Cat and the most powerful snowmaking system on the planet. For example South Ridge Jib Park with lots to hit in here. The bonk is mighty popular these days... c box and rail up top with a rainbow and A frame further down and a little booter at the end.

Ski Schools

Whatever you're looking for, Sunday River's Perfect Turn Ski and Snowboard School has it. Clinics are available daily for all ages and all abilities, from young to old and beginner to expert, a variety of season-long programs are available. Whether you just need a refresher or want become one of Perfect Turn's many regular participants, each clinic is sure to be a fun and rewarding experience, and will enhance your on-hill performance.

Eating Out

Once the sun goes down you can choose from a large selection of great restaurants or you can take advantage of the Mountain Explorer and take a FREE ride to the beautiful mountain village of nearby Bethel—where you can satisfy just about any appetite. Not to mention a micro-brewery where you can quench even the most voracious thirst. There are great après-ski spots where you can wind down after a long day, and bars with live entertainment where you can crank it up. From a candlelit dinner for two to family dining, lobsters to lager, and everything in between, its all covered in Sunday River. On the mountain All on-mountain restaurants are serviced by the resort trolley system, and most access road and Bethel locations are serviced by the Mountain Explorer shuttle. For example Moonstruck Café Open for breakfast and lunch, Moonstruck is a great place to warm up with a hot chocolate or bowl of soup. Located slopeside at the Grand Summit Resort Hotel.

Bars and clubs

Suds bar is your host if you require a band to entertain you, Legends of the Summit for your acoustic session or try Mattahorn for its great selection of beers. The town of Bethel is home to a wide range of night-time entertainment so take a chance and go that little further into town for some authentic New England entertainment.

Off the slopes

Sunday River is located in the town of Bethel, a sophisticated, classic New England community with an energy all it's own. The village itself offers a variety of activities including eclectic specialty shopping, antique barns and sleigh rides; a first-run multiplex movie theater; fine dining and lively bars. An indoor climbing wall and laser tag arena are great for those seeking something a little wilder after a day on the slopes. Outside the village there are miles of snowmobile and cross-country ski trails to roam on. A wonderful chance to get to know the region a little better, up close.
