Verbier - Introduction

Verbier Ski Resort is one of Switzerland's best known and most popular resorts. Home to the rich and famous, as well as being a vast ski area, Verbier Ski Resort is set high on a Swiss mountainside, spanning over four valleys and offering great panoramic views. Skiing in Verbier is suitable for all levels but in particular more advanced skiers and is located two hours drive from Geneva Airport and only one hour from Sion Airport. Verbier Ski Resort is linked by lifts to neighbouring Thyon, Veysonnaz and Nendaz, and together they form the Four Valleys. Accommodation in Verbier is varied and the resort is built in traditional chalet style boasting plenty of sports shops, boutiques, bars, restaurants and cafés. Renowned for its thriving nightlife which goes on though until the early hours, those who visit Verbier looking to enjoy the après ski will not be disappointed! Many events take place throughout the season including the O'Neill Xtreme Freeride contest and the Carlsberg High Five multi sports competition.
Skiing
Ski Holidays in Verbier are suitable for all standards, offering superb skiing on a variety of runs. The full area Lift passes give access to 100 lifts and around 410km of pistes. There is year round skiing on the Mont Fort glacier (3,300m) and a specialist park for boarders.The main pass 4 Valleys/Mont Fort pass covers Verbier, Mont-Fort, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon, Bruson and La Tzoumaz (Mayens-de-Riddes) and for a supplement you can also ski the La Breya area.
Snowboarding
Verbier Snowboarding has a fantastic reputation and there are many guides who will take groups or individuals for a day or more to get them familiar with the best terrain.Snowboarders are well catered for, with a half pipe and obstacles at Mont Fort and La Chaux.
Ski Schools
Verbier Ski Resort has a wide choice of different ski schools, however SkiExtras recommends Altitude Ski School who offer a great range of courses and friendly instructors.
Eating Out
There are over 40 dining options in Verbier offering a range of hotels from traditional Swiss fondue restaurants, to Sushi and Italian. For a perfect steak try the “Millennium” or why not treat yourself to a gastronomic extravaganza at the five star Chalet Adrienne.
Bars and clubs
Verbier really has something for everyone – from the famous Pub Le Mont Fort with happy hour from 4-5pm, food and late night opening, to the lively Big Ben pub which also boasts a good outside area. For a completely different vibe, the Milk Bar does hot chocolate, cake in a central location but without the loud music that reverberates around most of this area. You can club til the small hours at Scotch, Taratata and Casbah.
Off the slopes
If you are a non skier or fancy a break from the slopes there is so much to do in Verbier. You can indulge in spa treatments, swim, or even take in a movie at the English Cinema. For the adrenaline junkies amongst you parapenting, ice-climbing or tobogganing trips can be organised.
