Wengen - Information

Resort Information Wengen

Wengen, a gorgeous, car-free haven perched on a shelf of tranquil southwest-facing meadow. Wengen is one of Switzerland’s best-known ski resorts, most famous for hosting World Cup downhill and slalom races on the Lauberhorn every January. The resort stays bustling with skiers well into April. Once the snows have receded, Wengen sits amidst ideal hiking country, overlooked by the Jungfrau and the distinctive creamy cone of the Silberhorn. Its lofty outlook means it enjoys unrivalled valley sunsets. The area immediately in and around Wengen boasts over 100km of high altitude skiing, set against the stunning scenery of the Jungfrau region and the Eiger, whilst the rest of the linked Jungfrau top ski region extends this range to 213km! Skiing is suitable for all abilities, with nursery slopes and a “slow speed zone” in Grindelwald for beginners, a range of runs on the Kleine Scheidegg mountain, including the 8km Oberjuch run, and powder slopes at Eigergletscher for intermediates, and the fearsome Lauberhorn World Cup and Black Rock runs. If this isn’t enough, in nearby Murren is the nearly vertical Kanonenrohr, a truly challenging run indeed. Off-piste, there are over 30km of cross-country trails.
